Life didn’t start out easy, Harvey was born at 34 weeks and was quite unwell. He spent 5 weeks in NICU and has spent many more days and nights back in hospital over the past 2 years. Harvey has level 3 autism, epilepsy (suffers from 2 types of seizures), global developmental delay and we are going through the assessment process to rule out cerebral palsy.

We are seeking a Smartpup in hope the dog will enable Harvey to “be a normal kid”. Meaning we can go to the park, do the grocery shopping, go on adventures outside the four walls of our home and not be in fear that Harvey will run off, worry that he will get so distressed, frustrated and overwhelmed that he injures himself or tries to get away. Harvey has significant sensory needs and a sSmartpup will help us get through those challenges. A Smartpup would help distract and support harvey when he is frustrated or overwhelmed. It would provide a friend, a constant companion, support and mean that he wouldn’t feel so alone in this big world that he struggled to understand. But most of all, a Smartpup would give my beautiful boy the best chance at experiencing a normal childhood, like any child deserves.

This organisation is a non for-profit organisation and we feel well and truly honoured to have been chosen. The training for the pup can take 12-18 months but it is intense, and these dogs are just incredible.
