Smart Pups for Malachi

Smart Pups for Malachi

Malachi is a 7 year old boy who loves all things Star Wars, Pokémon and Dinosaurs Malachi was diagnosed with Autism at age 4 and severe life threatening Asthma. Life for Malachi has become full of appointments, Hospital and ICU admissions. This does not leave much quality time to spend as a family With his dad three younger sisters aged 6, 4 and 3 and myself.

Malachi has uncontrolled asthma symptoms every day, this has made Malachi scared to go and play outside with his sisters due to fear of a attack. Often Malachi will attempt to go outside and then hesitate and come back and say “i don’t want to I don’t want to puff”.

On top of all that, imagine you felt uncomfortable around family, friends, out in public and at school, basically everywhere.  Nobody understands your thoughts, everywhere you go, you feel out of place and you only get more anxious. That’s what it’s like for Malachi.

Malachi has been approved for a Smart Pup these are specially trained ‘task specific’ dogs that can assist with handling day-to-day routines and events. One of the special skills his dog will be trained in, is preempting a asthma attack and alerting a adult to come and help. This is going to be most helpful during the night as Malachi sleeps through severe asthma attacks, leaving us constantly to check on him and trying to remain alert throughout the night, always worrying what if tonight is the night We sleep through and miss his asthma attack…

A Smart Pup for Malachi really could be life saving and help take some of the pressure off us, giving the family peace of mind during the day or night.  A Smart Pup also acts as a connection between Malachi and the rest of the world, giving Malachi the companionship and confidence to go outside and be a normal 7 year old boy, even if this is just going for a walk around the park, instead of the isolation in his bedroom which is the only place he really feels comfortable.

BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP

We need to donate $20,000 to go towards the cost of training and we can not fully fund this ourselves, if you are in a position to contribute we would really appreciate the support.

Smart Pups Assistance Dogs for Special Needs Children is a Not-For-Profit and Tax Deductible Recipient under ABN 47059432193. All donations over $2.00 are Tax Deductible.  A receipt will be issued where a return email address is provided.
