Smart Pup for Destiny (28213)

Our beautiful daughter Destiny is a brave 7-year-old girl, fighting some big battles. She has a diagnosis of Autism, Sensory processing disorder, Diabetes Insipidus, Amblyopia, Strabismus along with Multiple Anxiety disorders including Generalized Anxiety disorder, Social Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Agoraphobia.

She requires an extensive medical team including Paediatrician, Psychiatrist, Ophthalmologist, Endocrinologist, Geneticist, Occupational therapist, Speech pathologist, Psychologist and Physiotherapist to assist with her ongoing care. Along with these many challenges Destiny also has multiple learning disabilities and requires further investigation for genetic disease along with more medical testing, learning evaluations and visual alignment surgery.

Currently Destiny is unable to leave the house or separate from us without it greatly impacting her health. She experiences major panic attacks to the point she becomes physically sick and unable to move. This has been extremely distressing to witness and has made life completely debilitating and isolating for our whole family. Destiny requires home education as she is unable to cope in the mainstream system and has had to undergo multiple hospital visits since birth. In 2019 she was admitted with a life-threatening illness, which has left her suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Destiny becomes easily overwhelmed and has an overly sensitive sensory system which makes going into social settings, interacting with others, and doing basic daily tasks difficult. Some days she is unable to even handle the feel of her own clothing or cope with any form of change. She suffers from extreme motion sickness so going in the car is next to impossible most days without huge distress, this makes getting her to her medical appointments exceedingly difficult and takes us weeks to prepare and recover from. The form of Diabetes that Destiny has affects her kidneys and can cause high levels of fatigue, chronic dehydration, weight loss and kidney damage when not managed correctly. She has lost all deep perception in her vision, with her eyesight still deteriorating requiring vision tests every 12 weeks.

Destiny is starting to become aware of her differences and many challenges, which has started to increase her anxiety and impact her overall health, sleep, and daily function. She has a twin sister that she shares an unbelievably strong bond with that is forever trying to help her avoid further struggle and will constantly ask us to help Destiny more because she cannot stand watching her best friend upset and suffer anymore. As parents this is beyond heart breaking and only makes our desire to help even stronger. We fought so hard to bring our beautiful girls into this world and they are every part amazing. They have taught us the true meaning of love, strength, and courage.

Our Dream for Destiny is for her to be able to reach her full potential and be as strong and healthy as possible. We want her to experience moments of joy and happiness in a safe loving environment. To have the best supports in place to be able to interact with family, friends and create meaningful and lasting relationships. We want her to be able to access the community without becoming so overwhelmed and for her to believe in herself as much as we do. We want her to follow her gentle kind heart and explore this world and let her creative imagination bloom. Our Dream is to be able to support her the absolute best we can and give her the unconditional love, encouragement, and acceptance she very much deserves.

For us to be able to provide Destiny with an assistance dog will give her a life changing gift that will offer the support, skills, and the comfort she requires to grow and thrive. It will give her the opportunity to build her confidence, independence, self-esteem, safety, and overall wellbeing. It will help her feel safe during medical care and give our family the opportunity to create precious memories.

A few weeks ago, Destiny said to me “Mummy, I find everything in life so hard, but I promise I will keep trying”. We make the same promise, we will never stop trying, never give up and do whatever it takes.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and will be forever grateful for your love, support, and kindness.
