26 Jul Smart Pup for Zoë (199215)
I am also autistic and non-speaking. This makes life quite hard for me sometimes and I get frustrated. I live with my mum Mia, dad Hannes and big sis (and my hero!) Luka. My favourite things to do (other than swinging, of course) is jumping on the trampoline, running on an empty beach and watching cars go by. Places I don’t do so well in are where lots of people are places with loud noises. Even though I love watching cars go by, I don’t really realise that they can hurt me, and always need an adult to tightly hold my hand when we are anywhere near a road. An Autism Assistance Dog will help Mum and Dad keep me safe. I also struggle with big emotions and sometimes hurt myself or those around me. Here an Autism Assistance Dog will help me to regulate before the emotions get overwhelming. Or when they do get the best of me, to work through the aftermath of the melt down. I also hate sleeping alone and have only ever slept next to Mum or Dad, or in the middle of them 🙂 I know that having an assistance dog will help me not be afraid of my own room because they will be with me!
Training assistance dogs is a very big job, and takes a long time, up to 24 months. This means it is also a very expensive job, about $30K to train one specifically for me.
Every single donation makes a difference to me and to my family. Having an Autism Assistance Dog will drastically alter my life, giving me more confidence and the freedom to venture into places, becoming a part of my community. I want to thank you in advance, from the bottom of my heart. Every donation adds up to make a big difference! You are part of an incredible community of loyal supporters, who together help to make great things possible from what are often small beginnings. Thank you for your donation! All donations over $2 are tax deductible. Thank you for your suppawt.-Zoë
