12 Sep Smart Pup for Sophia
Sophia is a horse obsessed seven year old with ADHD, autism spectrum and sensory processing disorders.
For Sophia, daily tasks are a real struggle. Getting ready for school five mornings a week is usually too much for her. Just putting her socks on for school in the morning means a meltdown because they aren’t straight, they feel funny or they aren’t tight enough. Brushing her hair usually results in tears because she can’t handle the feeling of her hair being pulled which means lots of knots. Food is another daily struggle. It needs to be crunchy and pale in colour for her to eat it unless it’s green apples and carrots which horses eat.
Sophia will greatly benefit from having her own specifically trained assistant dog. She adores animals and having her own assistant dog will help her cope with daily life, ease her sensory overload, help her gain independence and provide unconditional emotional support.
The pup will be trained to settle and sleep beside Sophia. To help her relax and feel safe in her own room at night. This would be a huge achievement because she is sleeping in with me.
Sophia becomes extremely anxious in new surroundings. She becomes clingy and withdrawn around people she doesn’t know. A smart pups dog will be trained to nuzzle and lay its head across her lap to reassure her that she is okay.
As a family we believe that Sophia having her own trained assistant dog will greatly improve her ability to interact as a regular child.
