15 Jul Smart Pup for Steph
With Steph there’s usually more questions than answers. It can be a little difficult with doctors disagreeing with each other, and a constellation of unexplained symptoms. Steph is under investigation for rare disease, neuromuscular conditions and seizure disorders. She has a lot of complex unexplained issues. So for now, Steph is a ‘SWAN’ or ‘diagnostic odyssey’.
Steph has been diagnosed with Autism, sensory processing disorder and hypotonia. She has difficulties with mobility, keeping steady and weakness. She fatigues easily and has a range of other complex medical issues. She experiences severe pain episodes and is often unwell.
Steph bravely faces many battles and misses out on a lot due to her conditions. She has a huge amount of appointments, both medical and intensive therapy, last month, 28 appointments altogether.
In between appointments Steph loves to get out in the community and have adventures. She loves music class, visiting the local theme parks and animal attractions as well as going to as many children’s concerts as possible, her favorites are The Wiggles and Hoot.
As much as Steph loves these adventures, she can often find it all very overwhelming. During shopping and every day life she experiences sensory overload, struggles to cope, becomes extremely distressed, and needs to leave early. So sadly she misses out on a lot. Without safety awareness, it can often be difficult for her mum to manage. When Steph becomes very distressed, it may also trigger a seizure episode. Even something like a loud motorbike riding past, can ruin an outing for her.
A Smart Pup would help keep Steph calm and safe in the community and at home. Could alert her mum to seizures, act as an anchor during meltdowns to help keep her safe and help her cope with hospital visits and every day life.
Steph just has her mum, a single parent and her full time carer, unable to go back to work yet due to Stephs high care needs.
This little family really needs a hand to raise the funds for this life changing assistance dog. All donations are gratefully received and can be made directly to Smart Pups.
Your donation will be greatly appreciated no matter how big or small. This organisation is a non for-profit organisation. The training for the pup can take 12-18 months but it is intense, and these dogs are just incredible.
Thank you for your donation! All donations over $2 are tax deductible.
