Our Golden boys shine…

Our Golden boys shine…

This week at Smart Pups….

I am going to talk about two good-looking fellas on our Smart Pups team. The sort of ruggedly handsome good-looking types that have air hostesses swooning for attention and girls lining up just for a photo opportunity.

Sadly, I am referring to our dogs and not any new recruits in the office! Not just any dogs though, the beautiful Golden Retriever boys Billy and Radar.

Billy began weaving his charm here on the Sunshine Coast and progressed well with his education thanks to his dedicated foster Debbie Gibson, before sharing his love in Kippa Ring with the equally dedicated Gloria Roselt.

And if you think it is all about the looks you would be wrong. Billy is one smart dog, proving you can ‘have it all’ by becoming our latest Smart Pup to finish training and begin life as an accredited Autism Assistance Dog for his girl Bella.

You can follow Bella and Billys story, watching the bond grow stronger day by day on their regular Facebook blog – Bella and Billy – a smart pups adventures

The pictures are heart-warming and the bond is beautiful to see. Having a Smartpup makes such a difference, and it is often the little things that we all just take for granted that our families appreciate the most. Here is Bella’s Mum describing going out as a family for a meal.. ‘We took Billy, he was impeccably behaved as was his human and it was the most relaxing dinner we have enjoyed out as a family like ever! People were smiling at us not staring. Billy is officially amazing’ 😍 💖 🐾 🐕 🐶’

Radar is hot on the heels of his mentor Billy, progressing through his modules with a view to placement as an assistance dog in November. Sometimes we do have remind Billy that he is here to learn and not to just look gorgeous, but he is very good ambassador!

Radar attended the Melbourne Dog Lovers Show and more recently the Sydney Dog Lovers Show. On both occasions he worked hard at the Big Dog Pet Foods stand as part of our partnership. Radar offered free cuddles and had the crowds queuing to meet him and take his photo. More than 300 happy snaps over the two days of the show!

Smart Pups Assistance Dogs will be proudly partnering with the Dog Lovers Show in Brisbane, on the weekend of November 3rd and 4th, on a stand featuring lots of our new merchandise lines, staff from Smart Pups will be available to answer questions about our puppy raising program, our services, and how to support us to help more children with special needs. We may also have a special guests on the stand so keep watching this space for Dog Lover Show updates. Radar will be excused from duties in preparation for his placement, but we are never short of cute pups to help us out.

We are short on volunteers though for the weekend. So why not mark the date in your calendar and contact our office to express your interest. We have several complimentary passes for helpers. What a great opportunity to volunteer AND to see all this wonderful show has to offer. Contact us at https://www.smartpups.org.au/contact/

Such a lovely feature Kate, thank you – I have to say it was an absolute pleasure having Billy in our lives. I’d also like to extend a huge thank you to Billy’s new family for creating the Bella and Billy FaceBook page. As a regular foster I know firsthand that it is never easy to give up these gorgeous pups at the end of their training, but to be able to see, on a regular basis, the incredible difference they are making in the lives of their new families is magical beyond words 🙂
