Posted @withregram • @jennipetrey This is what post meltdown now looks like in our household.

Before Henry was placed with us, meltdowns could last for hours. Now, Henry picks up on L's change in emotional state before a meltdown begins and he can usually calm L very quickly.

A few nights ago, L was having a rough afternoon. He wasn't in meltdown but was very close to it. This confused Henry, he really wasn't sure what L needed. Henry was on alert, it was as if he sensed something was wrong. He would not take his eyes off of L. But once L entered meltdown mode, Henry stepped in and took over.

Henry was nuzzling L's face to try to stop L from hurting his head. Henry was laying over L, providing deep pressure to L's legs which calms L. Henry was nudging L's arms every time L moved them back towards his face, reminding L "I'm here, pat me." And Henry lay on L until L was ready to interact with Henry and myself. All this without being prompted by myself.

Watching just how quickly Henry can calm L when he begins to enter meltdown mode, is truly amazing. Henry's training kicks in and he takes over.

And once L was calm and able to verbalise to me, he said "Henry amazing, he really helps me."

When an individual tells you that their service dog is life changing, please believe them.

Henry has truly been life changing for L and for our family.

This is a service dog in action.

We knew that having him would be life changing for him but he has been there for everyone in this awful time of constant lockdowns and uncertainty this past two years through Leos struggles with his airways autism and adhd Jester is always there. We are forever thankful to the wonderful people who donated towards Leo’s cause including @varietyvic who without their grant this would never have been possible @smartpups for choosing him for Leo, too his foster parents Andrew and @alisonwood294 for all the love and support they gave Jester we are so blessed to maintain contact with you. To his trainer Carolyn who trained us with Jester I’ll never forget my nerves that day but she was chilled and said we can do it. Leo constantly asks me to message her to show her how Jester is doing. To @billshortenmp his team who assisted us to get to Qld and quarantine and to the amazing Staff at @jetstaraustralia who made this a possibility to get there and back. Posted @withregram • @jennipetrey Henry had his second cinema outing yesterday, and nailed it yet again.

Both little superheroes love going to the movies but both need to constantly move. Henry is the best distraction because they sit on the floor with him, get a few cuddles and then they're ready to sit and continue watching the movie.

The reactions from other cinema goers is brilliant when they realise as we're leaving at the end of the movie, that there was a service dog in the theatre and no one realised ❤❤

The charity I have chosen for the month of September is @smartpups All of the profits I make from this month’s charity bookmarks from the 1st-31st of September will be donated to this charity in full.

Smart Pups in a not-for-profit charity based in QLD, Australia that provides service dogs to children with special needs/disabilities. The dogs are a form of intervention therapy that assists children in their independence and quality of life.

Since launching in 2011, the organisation has placed more than 180 service dogs Australia wide and receive no funding from the government, relying solely on donations and fundraising. Smart pups trains service dogs for autism assistance, seizure response, medical alert, vision assistance and much more.
 Service and assistance dogs are not given enough support and recognition for the profound difference they make in both children and adults, bringing positivity and hope into the lives of people with disabilities/special needs and their families.   I really hope that you can all get on board with supporting this charity by buying one or two of our charity bookmarks this month. Posted @withregram • @ring.o.rosie International Dog Day must not pass without a tribute to Rosie’s best friend Goose. A loving, gentle and cheeky boy. Goose sleeps on Rosie’s bed every night to keep her safe and gives her confidence as he walks by her side. We are working to include Goose in Rosie’s Physio program by bracing and providing her with support as she learns to stand up and walk. He loves to steal socks and his favourite part of the day is waiting at our front gate and greeting Rosie as she gets off the bus. We love you Goose! And we can’t thank Goose’s trainer and foster family enough for all the time spent training him! 😘
